  • What about community colleges and state schools? When I was graduating from high school, going to private institutions wasn't an option unless one was fortunate to be well off or brilliant.

  • I work over 40 hours a week at a small community college. I went 10 years after college, which I graduated from on time, with decent grades, without any health insurance of any kind.

  • Actually, children are born to begin life as egocentrics. That along with large heads in proportion to their bodies and big eyes is what helps them to survive.

  • I've been following this discussion for awhile and I have to ask: What your definition of Boomers, Gen Xers, and Gen Yers is? I was bron in 1966 to parents who were born in 1937 and 1943. I am the oldest child of two oldest children.

  • I'm a Gen Xer born in 1966 and my mother stayed home, but was miserable; my grandparents never, ever babysat; and none of my grandparents' or parents' generation were divorced, although half my great grandparents were. Divorced parents among my peers was almost non-existent.

  • I care about my students; I want them to be successful. I'm a Gen Xer who never had any money growing up, doesn't have any money now, graduated into a recession, twice, and has been told I can't expect to retire before I am 72.

  • Actually, my understanding is, that because of Ferpa, there is almost no way colleges can become more intrusive. I do hear at meetings though extensive efforts to insure success as we watch students burn through financial aid money.

  • I'm 42 years old, hold three jobs: an 8 hour a day job at a local rural community college, 9 credits of adjunct work a semester where 12-15 credits would make me full time, and work for small publisher in another state doing research.
